Understanding Legionella

The legionella bacteria can multiply to dangerous levels in warm water. Inhaling water droplets or spray can cause this potentially fatal form of pneumonia. Todays buildings where people are working, living, or studying are centrally heated and the water systems are a potential danger to those who live and work there. Everyone in charge of buildings and those responsible for maintainance must understand legionella.

Every company should have a legionella risk assessment which should establish any exposure to risk from legionella, and this should be written down where there are more than 5 employees.

This course will explain the legionella bacteria, how it causes illness, and explains and how preventative actions of those involved with water systems can minimise the risk of outbreak.
