Course Aim

The aim of the online awareness course is to educate workers and managers on the basic hazards and risks associated with working at height, even if they're not directly involved in height related tasks. All employees, will be shown to encourage to report unsafe practices and contibrute to a safer workplace.

Learning Objectives

On completion of the course, you should be able to:

  • Identify the legal responsibilities for reporting accidents
  • Name the responsibilities of the ‘Duty Holder’
  • List the 5-steps of a risk assessment
  • Identify how to use ladders and stepladders safely
  • State what the 3 points of contact are
  • State the correct angle for the safe use of a ladder
  • Name the 2 types of protection

Course Content

This course is made up of the following modules:

  • An introduction to Working at Height Awareness

    This section works as an introduction to the course and gives brief examples of work that may require to be completed from a height. The introduction also covers accident reporting and what is classed as a ‘height’.

  • Module 1 - Legal Responsibilities

    In this section we cover the Work at Height Regulations 2005 (amended 2007) and the ‘Duty Holders’ legal responsibilities. We also look at what the duty holder considerations when planning working at height as well as risk assessments.

  • Module 2 - Working with Ladders

    In this final section we look at what makes ladders/stepladders safe to use and how work should be carried out when using a ladder/stepladder. We also cover the correct angle for using a ladder safely and specialist equipment that can be used when a ladder is insufficient. We then conclude the module with looking at the different types of protection available when working at height is required.

  • Module 3 - The Law and Hot Working

    This final section of the course covers the legislation that covers workers from the risks of hot working, risk assessments and control measures required, welfare provisions and PPE. The course then completes with looking into the first aid and emergency response to hot working and recognising the symptoms of hot stress and roles and responsibilities involved.

Assessment

On completion of the course lessons and training material an online assessment will automatically unlock. The assessment will contain 15 multiple-choice questions and a mark of 75% or above will be required to pass.

The assessment will be marked instantly and so you will know straight away if you have passed or not. If you don't pass first time there's no need to worry. Unlimited resits at absolutely no additional charge are available so you can retake the assessment again as many times as you need to.


Certification

Our entire library of training courses is accredited by the CPD Certification Service as adhering to the universally recognised Continuing Professional Development (CPD) guidelines.

This training course and its content has also been assured by RoSPA, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.

Working at heights Awareness certificate

Upon passing the online assessment you will have the options to both print and download your Working at Height Awareness Certificate in PDF format. In addition to this an automated email will also be sent to your chosen email address containing a link to your certificate ensuring you always have access to a copy.

Furthermore, a QR code is displayed on each certificate which when scanned by a smartphone links to our certification database. This allows employers, auditors and local authority inspectors, for example, to establish a certificates validity instantly and at any time.
