Course Aim
This course aims to help the learner become aware of how noise can be a risk to health and safety by causing damage or a loss of hearing. This training course can be taken online by learners if they have a job role that requires them to work in a workplace where noise has the potential to become a health and safety hazard.
Learning Objectives
On completion of the course, you should be able to:
- Identify how hearing loss can occur
- List the types of harm noise can cause
- Give examples of how sound levels are measured
- Name the 3 exposure action values
- Give the upper exposure limit that no worker should be exposed to without ear protection
- State which legislation relates to noise
- List what employers’ and managers’ legal responsibilities are
- Name the 5-steps of a risk assessment

- Recognise when health surveillance should be carried out
Course Content
This course is made up of the following modules:

An introduction to Noise
This section introduces the learner to the course and how people work around noise on a daily basis as part of their job role.

Module 1 - How Hearing Works
This section of the course concentrates on how hearing works and how a loss of hearing can be caused due to excessive amounts of noise. It also looks at how to measure sound levels for safety.

Module 2 - Regulations and Risk Assessments
This section of the course covers the regulations that are put in place to protect workers and how to conduct a risk assessment. It also covers the responsibilities of employers, and what measures they should put in place to avoid risk to their worker's health.

Module 3 - PPE and Health Surveillance
In this final section, you will cover the importance of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and what PPE should be offered when working with dangerous levels of noise. It also looks at why health surveillance is essential.

Assessment
On completion of the course lessons and training material an online assessment will automatically unlock. The assessment will contain 15 multiple-choice questions and a mark of 75% or above will be required to pass.
The assessment will be marked instantly and so you will know straight away if you have passed or not. If you don't pass first time there's no need to worry. Unlimited resits at absolutely no additional charge are available so you can retake the assessment again as many times as you need to.
