This Winter Weather Awareness Training course looks at how to properly plan a necessary journey during the cold winter months allowing the driving to work we do every day be less hazardous. A short and simple task of walking to the bus stop can easily become life-threatening with a fall in wintery conditions.

In most scenarios better planning can result in a better or at least less frightening experience but before this stage the course will help to identify if a journey is really essential, and it will does by informing the learner of the factors that need to be considered.

Course Aim

The aim of this training course is to help the highlight how to determine if a journey is essential and if so, what preparation and planning can be actioned to ensure minimal risk to health and safety to themselves and others.


Learning Objectives

On completion of the course, you should be able to:

  • Identify the key considerations when deciding whether your journey is essential
  • Prepare adequately for your journey to work
  • Reduce the risks of slips and falls
  • Take appropriate action to maintain safety when working outside
  • Recognise the signs of overexposure in cold conditions

Training Course Content

This course is made up of the following modules:

  • Module 1 - Is your journey essential

    This section will cover the preparation for your journey, getting to your location, visitor safety and driving to work.

  • Module 2 - During the day

    Learn about salting; legal liabilities and responsibilities and the snow code.

  • Module 3 - Working in cold conditions

    Cold conditions, temperature, ill-health and the law.

  • Module 4 - Preventing slips and falls in winter

    Who is at risk if snow falls?

  • Module 5 - Forward planning in adverse weather

    Caleb’s working day; what to regularly check out for, special requirements in terms of early closure policies.


Assessment

On completion of the course lessons and training material an online assessment will automatically unlock. The assessment will contain 15 multiple-choice questions and a mark of 75% or above will be required to pass.

The assessment will be marked instantly and so you will know straight away if you have passed or not. If you don't pass first time there's no need to worry. Unlimited resits at absolutely no additional charge are available so you can retake the assessment again as many times as you need to.
